The United States Army is extremely famous for its effectiveness, devotion, and bravery. It belongs to the eight American uniformed services and is responsible for land-based operations. In order of precedence, it is the oldest and most senior branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, with its origins reaching the Continental Army created in 1775 to fight in the American Revolutionary War - even before the USA officially became a country.
The Structure of the U.S. Army
There are three components of the U.S. Army - the Regular Army which is the active component, and two reserve components, called the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard. Each of the reserve components includes mainly part-time soldiers who train once a month and conduct two or three weeks of annual training every year - they are referred to as unit training assemblies (UTAs) or battle assemblies.
Both the Army Reserve and the Regular Army are organized under Title 10 of the U.S. Code, but the National Guard is organized under Title 32. Even though the Army National Guard is organized, equipped, and trained as an element of the U.S. Army, it is commanded by individual state and territorial governors when not in federal service. However, there is an exception - even when not federalized, the District of Columbia National Guard sends its reports to the American president, not to the district’s mayor. The federalization can happen by presidential order, even against the governor’s opinion.
