Many retired American soldiers love to wear patriotic apparel because it helps them express the pride in serving their beloved country and their respect for the institution of the United States Army. It is something that will never go out of fashion, and that will personalize your outfit, emphasizing your identity and experiences.
One of the products you can find in our patriotic apparel online store is an army jacket. Having a patriotic embroidery or overprint referring to the U.S. Army will make you look proud of your service during your retirement. And there are many things to be proud of since these armed forces have crucial tasks focused mostly on protecting national security.
The Mission of the U.S. Army
The U.S. Army is the land-based branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. Its main aims are:
- Protect the safety and peace of the United States (both the main area and the dependent territories)
- Reacting to any aggressive acts from other nations who try to harm the peace and security of the country
- Contributing to the completion of the national objectives
- Reinforcing the national policies
Apart from that, the U.S. Army has an important strategy to modernize the brigade by concentrating on Corps and Division-level echelons. Now, by the end of 2028, they are also expected to add reforms and modernizations associated with very intense conflicts and participate in joint multi-domain operations.
The Origins of the U.S. Army
The first antecedent of the United States Army was the Continental Army that emerged in 1775. The Second Continental Congress created it to unify the forces of the colonies opposing Great Britain. George Washington became its first commander, and generally, these troops were initially commanded by soldiers who had previously served for the British Army or colonial militias. As a result, much of British military heritage influenced the Continental Army.
The progress of the Revolutionary War affected these forces to a large extent - it was re-shaped thanks to the French aid, resources, and military approach. What is more, many European soldiers contributed to that, including Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, who brought Prussian tactics and organizational structures. Since then, the army was evolving further and further and constantly continues changing and modernizing itself to serve the country the best it can.
The Components of the U.S. Army
The United States Army consists of three components, namely:
- The active component
- The Regular Army
- The reserve components (divided into the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard)
When it comes to the last one, mostly part-time soldiers belong to these troops - they are known as unit training assemblies (UTAs) or battle assemblies. They train once a month, and they need to conduct 2-3 weeks of annual training a year.
