The United States Air Force (USAF) is a vital element of the U.S. Armed Forces. In the beginning, it was a part of the U.S. Army, but on 18 September 1947, when the National Security Act of 1947 was passed, it became separate.
The core missions of the U.S. Air Force are:
global integrated intelligence
surveillance and reconnaissance
air superiority
global strike
command and control
rapid global mobility
The Administrative Organization of the U.S. Air Force
The Department of the Air Force constitutes one of three military departments that create the Department of Defense. It functions under the authority, control, and direction of the Secretary of Defense. Also, the civilian Secretary of Air Force is responsible for its management.
There are the following senior officials in the Office of the Secretary:
the General Counsel
four Assistant Secretaries of the Air Force
the Under Secretary of the Air Force
Each of the aforementioned officials is appointed by the American President after receiving the Senate’s advice and consent.
When it comes to the senior uniformed leadership in the Air Staff, it includes two officials - the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and the Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force.
The Service Uniforms of the U.S. Air Force
All the armed forces have several kinds of uniforms. One of the most commonly worn ones, comparable to business apparel in the civil world, is the service uniform. The current U.S. Air Force Service Dress Uniform was applied in 1994, and 5 years later, it became mandatory for all the soldiers. One of its elements is a three-button coat having silver-colored buttons with a famous symbol known as “Hap Arnold wings.”
What is more, in this uniform, you can see matching trousers with a Shade 1620 flight cap or service cap. For this reason, this color is usually referred to as “Air Force Blue.” Also, the U.S. airmen have a light blue shirt and a herringbone-patterned necktie.
